An opportunity to go deeperbook

‘New Heart of Wisdom’

We are currently studying Part 1 of ‘The New Heart of Wisdom’ by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.  Based on the famous Heart Sutra, this book presents the very essence of all Buddha’s teachings.  Part 1 reveals the profound meaning of emptiness, the true nature of all things, and how we can use this understanding practically in our life to eliminate our inner problems and dissatisfaction.  We will learn about the relationship between our mind and our world as well as a special method for overcoming obstacles in daily life which will help us realise our full potential.  Ultimately the wisdom of emptiness combined with compassion for others will enable us to free ourself and others from suffering permanently.  There are many benefits to joining this programme, namely:

1.  Increased personal insight, wisdom, and experience of Dharma (Buddha’s teachings)

2.  Studying and meditating more effectively following a specially-designed programme and qualified meditation teacher.

3.  The opportunity to discuss and connect with like-minded people who provide support and encouragement

The teacher of this programme is Principal Teacher of KMC Glasgow, Gen-la Kelsang Kunsang. She has been studying and practising Buddhism for 25 years and is skilled at presenting the deeper meaning of Venerable Geshe la’s books in a way that is relevant and accessible to all who listen.

Foundation Programme has many benefits (as mentioned above) and is not a drop-in class.  Enrolment is required to join the class, and we ask that everyone who enrols has a sincere personal commitment to try to attend each class, to attend regular group pujas (See ‘Chanted Prayers’ and ‘Friday Night Prayers for World Peace’ under In-Depth on website), and to sit an exam at the end of each part of the book.  All FP students must also be members of KMC Glasgow.

These personal commitments combined with the special structure of the class (see below) enable us to take the most from our efforts to improve the quality of our mind and realise our full potential.

The programme consists of a dynamic combination of teachings, meditation, and discussion, all of which enable us to go deeper into the layers of meaning within each book that we study.  All of this helps us to make real progress along our spiritual path.

The programme runs to normal school term times. Each class consists of preliminary prayers, guided meditation and reading from the book with commentary and discussion.
