Meditations for Healing

March  14 | 21

The focus of this course will be on the traditional healing meditations called ‘taking and giving’ which are profound methods to strengthen our love and wisdom, clear away negativity, heal our body and mind, and ultimately lead us directly along the path to enlightenment. Suitable for all levels of experience, each class will include guided meditations and explanations of these practices based on Buddhist philosophy.

These classes are based on the chapter  ‘Taking and Giving’ from the book How to Transform your Life by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.

A Positive Way of Life

April 4, 11, 18, 25 | May 2

We are all faced with the question of how best we should live our lives, what principles should we adopt, and what behaviour should we aspire to. These overarching beliefs and understandings inform the way we relate to ourselves and others, as well as how we respond to challenges and setbacks.

In this course we explore some ancient Buddhist texts, which give profound,  though practical advice on these matters. Through listening to, and contemplating this deep wisdom, we can have a source of inner guidance throughout our life.

This series is based on the chapter  ‘The Kadampa Way of Life’ from the book How to Transform your Life, by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.

Becoming a Friend of the World

May 9, 16, 23, 30

Our present ability to help those around us has its limitations. Often we wish we had more wisdom, love and energy to give to our family, friends and colleagues. Whilst it is sensible not to push ourselves too far, we also want to deepen our current capacity.

A supreme method to develop our mind is to practice a special type of compassion, where we wish to realise our full potential, in order to benefit others. Through this training we find real joy, meaning and heroism within ourselves.

This series is based on the chapter  ‘The supreme good heart’ from the book How to Transform your Life, by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.

Removing the Source of Pain

June 6, 13, 20, 27 | July 4

When things go wrong in our life, we tend to blame some aspect of our external situation. We try hard to solve our problems externally. Although we may experience some temporary relief, new difficulties come, and old ones return. This indicates we have not identified the actual source of our pain.

In this series we explore the psychological cause of our suffering. We shall see that our pain is caused by our mind, in general, and more specifically, a part of our mind which views our self in a distorted and negative way.

This series is based on the chapter  ‘Ultimate Bodhichitta’ from the book How to Transform your Life, by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.
