Modern Buddhism is a contemporary application of the timeless and enlightening wisdom taught by Buddha nearly 2,600 years ago.  Open to everyone, regardless of background or beliefs, this ongoing weekly class emphasises gaining personal experience of the vast and profound benefits of Buddhist meditation & mindfulness in a structured, friendly, and supportive environment.

We include engaging content and interactive discussion that focuses on real-life application of the concepts covered.  A particular emphasis is placed on employing mindfulness in daily life and developing a personal meditation practice so that remarkable, internal progress can be achieved.

Although this class is drop-in, we recommend the following books for anyone who is attending regularly:  Modern Buddhism, Introduction to Buddhism, and The New Meditation Handbook, all written by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso and available in our shop.  Modern Buddhism is also available as a free download click here.

If we develop an authentic wish for our own permanent inner peace of liberation, it will be easy for us to wish for others to attain a similar happiness and peace.  A wish for others to attain pure happiness is the altruistic mind of love.  During this month, explore the practical, step-by-step methods of meditation that gradually lead to the unending joy of pure love.

Improving your Good Heart

Once we have developed an authentic wish to escape problems and suffering ourself, we will naturally wish to help others do the same.  Compassion is the powerful wish to protect or free others from problems and suffering.  When our mind is filled with compassion, our mind remains peaceful and positive despite the suffering we see in others.  Compassion gives us the strength and power necessary to help others when they are most vulnerable.  During the month of June we will learn how to unlock our full potential for compassion and follow the path that leads to Enlightenment.
