Modern Buddhism is a contemporary application of the timeless and enlightening wisdom taught by Buddha nearly 2,600 years ago.  Open to everyone, regardless of background or beliefs, this ongoing weekly class emphasises gaining personal experience of the vast and profound benefits of Buddhist meditation & mindfulness in a structured, friendly, and supportive environment.

We include engaging content and interactive discussion that focuses on real-life application of the concepts covered.  A particular emphasis is placed on employing mindfulness in daily life and developing a personal meditation practice so that remarkable, internal progress can be achieved.

Although this class is drop-in, we recommend the following books for anyone who is attending regularly:  Modern Buddhism, Introduction to Buddhism, and The New Meditation Handbook, all written by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso and available in our shop.  Modern Buddhism is also available as a free download click here.

Exploring Reality

October 3, 17, 24, 31

The focus of this 4 week course is exploring emptiness, the true nature of things or the way things really are. We suffer because we mistakenly believe that our life and world exist exactly as they appear–real, solid, and true, whereas in reality all appearances are illusory and ultimately deceptive. This special knowledge will finally release us from all suffering and we will come to enjoy supreme, permanent inner peace.

Exploring Reality

November 7, 14, 21, 28

Normally we relate to ourselves in a limited, fixed and ordinary way. In this course we will learn to identify our self correctly, in a creative and constructive way, in order to free us from mistaken and painful, ignorant thoughts.

We also will continue to deepen our wisdom understanding reality, and to learn how we then can integrate this wisdom into our daily life.

The Preciousness Of Tantra

December 5, 12

To illustrate the relationship between practices of Sutra and Tantra, which are leading us to the supreme everlasting happiness of Enlightenment, Sutra is compared as being the highway and Tantra as the fast vehicle, with which we can accomplish this goal, the real meaning of our human life.

In these two evenings we receive an introduction to what Tantra actually is and its practices.

Based on the chapters on ” The Preciousness of Tantra pg. 149-155
